AUKUS Electronic Warfare Innovation Challenge

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator has invested an additional $8 million in the next stage of the AUKUS Advanced Capabilities (Pillar II) Electronic Warfare Innovation Challenge.

Advanced Design Technology and Penten, previously involved in stage one co-development workshops, have now entered into 12-month contracts with Defence, with a combined value of more than $8 million, to further develop their technologies.

This funding will assist the development and demonstration of electronic warfare prototypes that address Australian Defence Force operating requirements and show the important contribution that Australian industry is making in developing advanced electronic warfare capabilities, including as part of AUKUS Pillar II.

The AUKUS Electronic Warfare Innovation Challenge was launched in March 2024 and facilitated through the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator alongside the Defence and Security Accelerator (UK) and the Defence Innovation Unit (US).

Winners for stage one were chosen by each AUKUS country and announced on 26 September 2024 as part of the AUKUS Defence Ministers’ Meeting. Three Australian industry partners were selected for the national prize.

The AUKUS Electronic Warfare Innovation Challenge focuses on leveraging electromagnetic spectrum technologies and capabilities that provide a competitive advantage to electromagnetic targeting, and those that protect Defence from adversary electromagnetic targeting capabilities.
